The feta and spinach pastry, though supposedly heated up, wasn't still cold in the middle and tasted as if it cane out of a vending machine. Staff nice. Few outlets for plugging in devices, though wifi good. Coffee solid but not extraordinary

I’ve found the coffee here to often taste burnt, which is disappointing given how inviting the rest of the menu looks. The savory tarts and pastries are really good, but the muffins and sweet snacks feel a bit too sweet for my taste. There’s definitely a lot of variety in flavors, but the prices are on the higher side. Paying $10 for a cup of coffee feels steep.
They recently started enforcing a 90-minute rule, which I can understand if the place is packed. But asking people to leave when the café is nearly empty feels unnecessary. The space itself is well set up, with extra seating downstairs, and the baristas are always warm and welcoming. Still, the number of rules posted everywhere gives the place a colder, less inviting feel, which takes away from the overall experience.

I'm in town on business and needed a good coffee shop. After searching around the hotel I'm staying at, I found that Black Turtle Coffee had great reviews. Even though there were only a few comments, it still looked amazing. Both the ambiance and the coffee selection were impressive. When I walked in, I encountered an extremely friendly staff and spoke to one of the co-owners. The drink that I ordered was a cold brew with sugar-free caramel and a cold foam topped with black sea salt, called the Zeppelin Cold Brew. I would highly recommend stopping by if you are in town, heading off of Walnut onto 18th, and grabbing a coffee. The atmosphere is semi-industrial, with bar-top seating that overlooks the sidewalk so you can people-watch if you like, or an upstairs area with a few tables.

My only complaint is that it is a tad expensive. If your looking for a place with a great range of beverages and they have delicious foods, friendly people and clean space, then this is the place! I had the lattice parmesan leek egg pastry and it was so delicious, they warmed it up for me and I was very happy :)

The matcha latte and black drip coffee were decent and really appreciated the vegan pastry option (vegan croissants, pretty yummy) that they heated for you before serving. The non dairy milk options were $1 extra though

I was staying at one of the hotels up the street and decides in this place out of all the coffee spots around. It was pretty good, I would come back when I'm in town. Got the Maple latte and Boubon Reserve…both excellent and the pistachio muffin was just what I needed warmed up.

Great atmosphere, solid cup of coffee and the food was flavorful.
The Caesar wrap was well seasoned and flavored without being too drippy like most Caesar wraps. Great execution.
The French toast muffin was delicious and tasted eerily like eating a French toast stick in a good way.
The chips were pretty good and I’m a picky chip eater
Service was courteous and relatively quick even though the line was long
Will definitely be back

In A Nutshell:
-Black Turtle Coffee is a legit coffee shop in Philly.
-I tried their red eye called Hammershell & it tasted really good.
-It had the right amount of caffeine too.
-Their sausage breakfast sandwich was super-tasty, their sauce had a nice touch of spice too.
Overall, this corner spot w/ bright big windows was the perfect way to start the day.

Honest review time: Black Turtle Coffee feels like a business. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but a reflection of how they've structured their customer experience. Rules are posted everywhere, and the menu prioritizes efficiency and profitability, offering limited customization to keep specialty drink prices within value. While some coffee shops overwhelm with choices, I found their menu a bit too restrictive. “16 oz” only means there’s little demand for these drinks so I’d find out which ones the more profitable beverage and cut ties with others.
After tip, my drink came to $9.50, and I would have appreciated a smaller, more affordable option. There are only options to increase the cost of a beverage, not reduce it. The Irish Treasure was delicious, but as it cooled, I started questioning whether it was worth the price.
That said, the baristas are consistently kind—they hire good people.
I’d love to see the space feel more inviting. If you need that many posted rules, it’s often a sign that the interior design isn’t working as intended. Hopefully, as they grow, they refine the experience in a way that balances structure with warmth.
For now, I’d give it a solid 3 out of 5.

Very nice little cafe in Philly. Loved the matcha (was on the sweeter side if you prefer that) and muffin selection. Appreciated the customer bathroom.
